Kosher Jerky for Yeshiva and Seminary Students in Israel
For a student spending the year in yeshiva or seminary in Israel, a package of kosher jerky is one of the most useful things to send: protein that needs no kitchen, keeps for months, and tastes like home. Dorm kitchens are small, schedules are long, and a sealed bag in a drawer fixes a late-night learning session. Here is what to send and how to get it there.
Why it suits a year in Israel
- No kitchen needed. Many dorms have limited or shared kitchens.
- Keeps for months sealed. One package can last a semester.
- Protein, not just sugar. Long days of learning run better on real food.
- A taste of home. American-style jerky and South African biltong are both harder to find in Israel.
What to send
| Student | Send |
|---|---|
| Sweet tooth | Meat Candy, both flavors |
| Watching sugar or eating for the gym | Original biltong |
| Shares with the whole dorm room | A pound of bulk sliced, split into bags on arrival |
| Hard to buy for | A sampler and some minis |
A good amount for a semester is 1–2 lb, in sealed bags rather than one big one. Minis are best for a student who takes a bag to shiur.
Getting it to Israel
- We ship within the US only. Send it with someone flying over, or through a program or organization that collects in the US.
- Check current rules on importing meat before ordering. They change.
- A family member flying over is often the easiest route. Sealed dried meat is solid food and travels well in a suitcase; check Israeli customs rules for your trip.
- Some programs collect packages from families in the US and ship together. Ask the school.
Kashrus for the school
Some yeshivos and seminaries have a list of accepted hechsherim for food in the dorm. Check it, and compare against our certificates. Everything we make is certified Glatt Kosher, and meat, so it stays out of the dairy side of a shared kitchen.
