Kosher Jerky for Summer Camp Care Packages
Kosher jerky is one of the few foods most summer camps will let through in a care package, and one of the few that survives a bunk trunk in July. It is sealed, shelf-stable, nut-free and substantial. Before you pack it, though, check your camp's rules. Here is what to know.
Check the camp's rules first
Camps differ widely on food in packages. Some allow none at all, some allow sealed packaged food, some specify certified kosher only or a list of accepted hechsherim, and many are nut-free. Read the parent handbook before you order anything.
| Common camp rule | Kosher jerky |
|---|---|
| Sealed, store-bought only | Sealed bags. Fits |
| Certified kosher only | Certified Glatt Kosher. Certificates here if the camp asks |
| Nut-free | No nuts in our blends |
| No food in bunks | Then jerky has to wait for visiting day |
Why it suits camp
- Heat-proof when sealed. No melting, unlike chocolate.
- Real protein. Kids burn a lot at camp.
- Shareable. A bag of jerky makes friends in a bunk.
What to send
- 1 oz minis, so each one is finished in one go and nothing sits open in a hot bunk.
- Meat Candy for younger campers who like it sweet.
- Original biltong for older campers and staff.
- Skip Peri Peri for a kid who does not already love heat.
For a four-week session, a handful of minis per package is plenty. A bunk-share package: 10–15 minis, mixed.
The Nine Days
Many camps go dairy during the Nine Days, which falls in the middle of summer. A jerky package arriving then may have to wait for Shabbos or after Tisha B'Av. More on the Nine Days and jerky.
Visiting day
If packages are not allowed, visiting day is the moment. A bag of jerky is easy to bring and does not need a cooler.
Our kosher beef jerky and biltong are certified Glatt Kosher. Order a week before camp; US orders over $50 ship free.
