Brooklyn Biltong Compared With Grub Company: What Each Offers

Brooklyn Biltong and Grub Company both make air-dried grass-fed beef biltong in the United States, but Grub is the one that states certified Glatt Kosher, and Brooklyn Biltong is the one with more formats and a store locator. If you keep a kosher kitchen, that single line decides most of it. Everything below is based on what each company says on its own website, and we say where a fact was not stated.

Grub Company makes certified Glatt Kosher biltong and Meat Candy beef jerky, air-dried in small batches in Florida. As of October 2026, based on Brooklyn Biltong's own website, this page sets the two side by side. We are not affiliated with Brooklyn Biltong. We did not taste, test or rate their product, and nothing here is a verdict on its quality. It is a plain list of what each company offers and states, so you can pick the one that fits your table.

What Brooklyn Biltong says it offers

Brooklyn Biltong's site calls its product "biltong air-dried meats." The main item is a 3.2 oz bag of Biltong Steak Slices in five flavors: Classic, Garlic (which it labels Steakhouse), Lemon Pepper, Pepper Coriander and Chili (which it labels Peri Peri).

It lists other formats too. There are Classic Skinny Sticks and Classic Tender Strips in 3.5 oz bags, and Tender Steak Slices in 0.8 oz bags in Classic, Pepper and Coriander, and Garlic. It also sells a five-bag variety pack, a starter pack where you mix and match flavors, and a gift box of five bags. There is a subscriptions page, and wholesale is handled through Faire.

On sourcing, the site says "Made in USA." On the pages we read, it does not name a farm or a meat supplier. The Classic product page describes the ingredients as grass-fed beef seasoned simply with apple cider vinegar and salt, air-dried.

Brooklyn Biltong's site shows badges for gluten free, dairy free, no added sugar and non-GMO, and says its biltong is keto, paleo and Whole30 certified. It states 50 grams of protein for a 3.2 oz bag.

Its storage page says an unopened bag can last up to 12 months in a cool, dry place. It says opened biltong does not have to be refrigerated, that it lasts about a month, and that refrigeration keeps it freshest. Its site also has a "Find a store" page. It lists Target among its "as seen in" logos.

What Grub Company offers

Grub's core line is Sliced Biltong, a 3 oz ready-to-eat bag in three flavors. Original is beef first, then the warm citrus note of coriander. Peri Peri adds real heat. Loaded Garlic is roasted garlic, rounder and sweeter, savory rather than hot.

The Original ingredient list is grass-fed kosher beef, coriander, black pepper, salt, garlic and vinegar. No sugar appears in it. Peri Peri adds red pepper and brown sugar to that list, so read the label for the flavor you choose.

Beyond the 3 oz bag, Grub sells 1 oz Minis, a Biltong Sampler Pack with one mini of each flavor, a one-pound bulk bag, and one-pound uncut Biltong Slabs you slice yourself. It also makes Meat Candy, its beef jerky, in two flavors: Hickory Kickory Dock and Baa-Baa BBQ Sheep. Meat Candy is cooked and glazed, so it is sweeter than biltong. If you want the full range in one place, see buy biltong online.

Grub is certified Glatt Kosher. You can read what that means on our kosher biltong page. Orders over $50 ship free, and we ship to US addresses only.

Who each one suits

Choose Grub if kosher certification is a requirement. A certification is not a flavor note. It is a yes or no for a household that keeps kosher, and it matters even more for a shul kiddush, a simcha, a gift to a rabbi or a camp order. Grub states it plainly. We did not find a kosher certification stated on Brooklyn Biltong's product pages, so if you keep kosher, ask them directly before you buy.

Choose Brooklyn Biltong if you want to pick it up in a shop. It publishes a store locator. Grub sells online, so if you want to hold the bag in a store first, that is a real advantage for them.

Choose Brooklyn Biltong if you want thin tender slices in a very small bag. Its 0.8 oz Tender Steak Slices are a format Grub does not make. Grub's smallest bag is the 1 oz Mini.

Choose Grub if you want to buy by the pound. Grub's one-pound bulk bag and uncut Slabs suit a big family, a party or a person who likes to cut their own. A slab is an ingredient, not a snack. It needs a board and a sharp knife, so buy sliced if you want to eat from the bag.

Choose Grub if you also want jerky. Meat Candy is cooked, glazed and sweet. Biltong is savory and air-dried. If your house wants both, Grub covers both from one kosher maker. Our guide to Meat Candy versus biltong explains the difference.

Choose either if you want grass-fed beef biltong with a short ingredient list. Both companies describe it that way on their own sites.

Flavors, in plain terms

The two flavor lists overlap more than they differ. Both make a peri peri flavor. Brooklyn Biltong's Classic is described as beef, apple cider vinegar and salt. Its Pepper Coriander flavor is the closest match to Grub's Original, which is built on coriander, black pepper and garlic with vinegar. Grub's Loaded Garlic and Brooklyn Biltong's Garlic will land close to each other for someone who loves garlic.

Brooklyn Biltong has a Lemon Pepper flavor, which Grub does not. If you want that taste, it is your pick. If you want the heat of peri peri, both brands offer it, so the deciding factor is the one above: kosher, or not.

Storage and freshness

Both companies sell a dried, ready-to-eat product. Brooklyn Biltong's site gives the numbers above: up to 12 months unopened in a cool, dry place and about a month once opened. Grub's biltong needs no refrigeration, and a bag you open is best finished in good time and kept in a cool, dry spot. For the fine points, see our guide to how long an opened bag lasts.

If a package arrives damaged, tell the seller right away. Both companies list ways to contact them on their sites.

The bottom line

If you keep kosher, buy the one that is certified Glatt Kosher, and that is Grub. If you do not, and you want a store you can walk into or thin tender slices in a tiny bag, Brooklyn Biltong has real strengths. Try a Biltong Sampler Pack if you want to judge Grub's three flavors before buying more. If you want the page we are most proud of, it is our kosher beef jerky collection.
