Ayoba Biltong Compared With Grub Company: What Each Offers

Ayoba and Grub Company both sell grass-fed beef biltong with short ingredient lists, but Grub is certified Glatt Kosher and Ayoba is the one that also sells droewors and an 8 oz slab. For a household that keeps kosher, certification decides it. For a shopper who wants South African dried sausage, Ayoba offers something Grub does not. This page sets out what each company says on its own website.

Grub Company makes certified Glatt Kosher biltong and Meat Candy beef jerky, air-dried in small batches in Florida. As of October 2026, based on Ayoba's own website, we list below what each company states. We are not affiliated with Ayoba. We did not taste or test its products, and we make no judgment about its quality, only about what its site does and does not say.

What Ayoba says it offers

Ayoba's site sells biltong, droewors, whole biltong slabs, bundles, gift boxes and gift baskets. It also lists a subscription option, a wholesale program and a request-a-store form.

The biltong comes in two flavors, Traditional and Spicy. The site lists a Traditional Biltong bag, bulk combo packs, and Tender Slices, which it describes as grass-fed biltong slices. The product page lists size options of 2 oz, 4 oz and 8 oz, and a three-pack of 2 oz bags. The whole biltong slab is 8 oz, in Traditional or Spicy.

Droewors is the South African dried beef stick. Ayoba lists it in Traditional, Spicy, and Garlic and Herb, sold as a 12-pack of 1 oz sticks and in 2 oz formats. Its shipping page says droewors is 100% beef spiced with coriander, cloves, salt and pepper.

Ayoba's FAQ gives the biltong ingredients as grass-fed beef, sea salt, coriander, vinegar and Worcestershire powder. The site says the beef is air-dried for up to 14 days, with a range of 7 to 14 days in the FAQ. It says there is no added sugar and no nitrates, and describes the cattle as grass-fed and raised on open pastures. It labels its snacks Paleo and Keto certified and Whole30 approved, and says they are gluten free and dairy free.

On shipping, Ayoba states it ships from its warehouse in Springfield, Virginia, that orders received before noon Eastern ship the same day, and that transit typically takes one to five business days. It offers free shipping above a stated order minimum. It states a 12-month shelf life from the packaging date and recommends finishing opened products within four days.

What we did not find: the pages we read did not say where Ayoba's products are made, and they do not mention kosher. We did not find a kosher certification stated on Ayoba's site.

What Grub Company offers

Grub's center is Sliced Biltong, a 3 oz ready-to-eat bag in Original, Peri Peri and Loaded Garlic. Original is beef first, then the warm citrus note of coriander. Peri Peri is the same with real heat. Loaded Garlic is roasted garlic, savory rather than hot.

The Original ingredients are grass-fed kosher beef, coriander, black pepper, salt, garlic and vinegar. Peri Peri adds red pepper and brown sugar, so check the label of the flavor you choose. We make biltong and Meat Candy, not droewors.

The rest of the range: 1 oz Minis, a Biltong Sampler Pack, a one-pound bulk bag and one-pound uncut Biltong Slabs. Our jerky is Meat Candy, in Hickory Kickory Dock and Baa-Baa BBQ Sheep, cooked, glazed and sweeter than biltong. Grub is certified Glatt Kosher, explained on our kosher biltong page. Orders over $50 ship free, and we ship to US addresses only.

Who each one suits

Choose Grub if you keep kosher. A household that keeps kosher needs a certification it can point to. Grub states certified Glatt Kosher. We did not find one stated on Ayoba's site, so if you need to know, ask Ayoba directly. Our kosher biltong buying guide lists what to look for on any label.

Choose Ayoba if you want droewors. Droewors is a different snack: a thin dried beef stick. If you love it, Ayoba sells it in three flavors and Grub does not. We would rather tell you that than pretend otherwise.

Choose Ayoba if you want an 8 oz slab or a 2 oz bag. Those are sizes Grub does not make. Grub's slabs are a pound, and its smallest bag is the 1 oz Mini.

Choose Grub if you want to try all three flavors first. The Sampler Pack is one mini of each flavor. Buying a pound of a flavor you have not tasted is the most common first-order mistake with biltong.

Choose Grub if you also want jerky. Meat Candy gives you the sweet side from the same kosher maker. Our guide to Meat Candy versus biltong shows which fits which moment.

Check shipping on both before you decide. Ayoba states same-day shipping before noon Eastern and one to five business days in transit. We make no delivery-time promises here, so check each shop's checkout page for your address.

Where the two products look alike

Both are air-dried grass-fed beef with salt, coriander and vinegar at the heart of the recipe. Both are sold ready to eat. Ayoba states no added sugar. Grub's Original lists no sugar, though Peri Peri includes brown sugar, so read the label. Both describe a short, spice-led ingredient list.

They differ in small ways. Ayoba lists Worcestershire powder. Grub's Original lists black pepper and garlic. A person with an allergy or a strict diet should read the actual label of the bag, not a comparison page. For allergens on Grub's range, see biltong and common food allergies.

The bottom line

If you keep kosher, buy the certified one. That is Grub. If you want droewors or an 8 oz slab, Ayoba has them and we do not. Plenty of people will like both, and a sampler is a low-risk way to compare. Start with the biltong collection, or look at our kosher beef jerky if you want the sweeter side.

We are not affiliated with Ayoba. Facts about Ayoba come from its own website as of October 2026 and may change. Check its site for current details.
