Biltong Depot Compared With Grub Company: What Each Offers
Biltong Depot and Grub both sell air-dried beef biltong in the United States; as of October 2026, Biltong Depot's own website describes a Tennessee business with a wider range including drywors, while Grub is certified Glatt Kosher and air-dried in small batches in Florida.
If you searched for Biltong Depot, you are probably comparing a few US biltong sellers before you order. We are Grub, a kosher maker, so we have a stake here and we will not pretend otherwise. This page sets out what each company says about itself. For Biltong Depot, we use only what is on its own website. For Grub, we use only our own product and kosher pages. We are not affiliated with Biltong Depot.
What this is based on
As of October 2026, based on Biltong Depot's own website, we read its home page, its history page, its shipping policy and its product listing. Some pages we tried returned an error, and a few details (such as where the meat is sourced) did not appear on the pages we could read. Where that happens we say so. We have not tasted its product, and we make no judgment about quality, taste, safety or health. We also quote no reviews. Sites change, so confirm anything important with the seller.
What each company states
| Biltong Depot (its own site) | Grub Company | |
|---|---|---|
| Based in | Tennessee; its history page describes a start in Franklin, Tennessee | Florida |

| Biltong flavors listed | Original, Habanero Chili, Smoky Mesquite, a Bold blend, Chili Bites | Original, Peri Peri, Loaded Garlic |
| Formats listed | Slices (including 16 oz), slabs (8 oz), variety packs (3 x 3 oz), bundles | 3 oz sliced bags, 1 oz Mini's, Sampler Pack, 1 lb slabs, 1 lb bulk sliced |
| Sugar | Describes its products as "sugar free" on its history page | Original lists no sugar; Peri Peri lists brown sugar |
| Where made or sourced | We did not find this stated on the pages we read | Air-dried in small batches in Florida; grass-fed kosher beef |
| Kosher | We did not find a kosher certification stated on its site | Certified Glatt Kosher |
| Shipping stated | "Fast free shipping on meat orders over $50"; USPS and UPS; goal of delivery within 3 business days | US addresses only; orders over $50 ship free |
| Also sells | Home biltong maker, biltong cutter, flavor sprinkles, apparel, subscriptions | Wholesale cases, gift packs, Beef Crisps and big-piece jerky in limited test batches |
The history page also says the business began in 2014 as a local butcher shop and moved into a larger facility in 2020 before shipping nationally. We include that because it is how the company tells its own story.
Where Biltong Depot fits better
Range. Its site lists more flavors than we do, including Habanero Chili and Smoky Mesquite, and a Bold blend. If you want a hotter or smokier option than Peri Peri, it lists them and we do not.
Drywors. It sells drywors, the South African dried sausage. We do not. We make biltong and Meat Candy, not droewors. If drywors is on your list, that is a real reason to look at Biltong Depot.
Make it yourself. It lists a home biltong maker, a cutter and flavor sprinkles. We sell none of those. We sell the finished product. If you want to dry biltong at home, that is a different project, and the kosher questions of home drying are yours to ask your rabbi.
Faster shipping stated. Its shipping policy states a goal of delivery within 3 business days. We do not state a delivery time, because we would rather not promise one we do not control.
Where Grub fits better
You keep kosher. This is the central difference. Grub biltong is certified Glatt Kosher, and you can read how that works on our kosher biltong page. We did not find a kosher certification stated on Biltong Depot's site. That does not mean its product is not kosher. It means the information was not there for us to read, and a kosher shopper needs a certification, not an assumption.
You want kosher jerky too. Meat Candy is our cooked, glazed, sweeter jerky. See the kosher beef jerky collection. In the product listing we read, we did not see jerky from Biltong Depot.
You want to try before you commit. The Biltong Sampler Pack is one mini bag each of our three flavors. For a regular bag, Sliced Biltong comes in three ounces and needs no refrigeration. See the whole biltong collection for every size.
You want small-batch Florida production. We air-dry in small batches in Florida. Biltong Depot's pages that we read did not state where its product is made, so we cannot compare locations.
Choosing by what you plan to do with it
Most people do not buy biltong in the abstract. They buy it for a reason, and the reason often decides the seller.
- A snack for yourself. Either company will do, provided the certification and flavor fit. A three-ounce bag or a mini is easier than a pound for a first try.
- A Shabbos or kiddush table. This needs a certification you can point to. Our piece on biltong versus beef jerky helps you decide what to put out, and certified Glatt Kosher is the starting line.
- Stocking a house or an office. Look at the bulk formats. Biltong Depot lists a 16 oz sliced bag. We sell a Bulk Biltong pound of sliced biltong in all three flavors, and our wholesale page covers cases for businesses. Tell us what you need.
- A gift. A sampler lets the recipient find their own favorite, which matters because heat tolerance varies a lot. Our Sampler Pack was built for that.
- Making it at home. That is Biltong Depot's territory, since it lists a maker and cutter. We do not sell equipment.
Whatever you choose, store it well once it arrives. Our guide to storing biltong covers what to do after the bag is open.
A fair word on sugar
Biltong Depot describes its products as sugar free. Our Original also lists no sugar: grass-fed kosher beef, coriander, black pepper, salt, garlic and vinegar. Our Peri Peri does list brown sugar, and our Loaded Garlic and Original do not. If you are reading labels closely, compare the actual ingredient list of the exact flavor you want from either company, because we have not seen Biltong Depot's. For help reading one, see how to judge any brand.
What we could not compare
A fair comparison names its gaps. We could not read Biltong Depot's ingredient lists or any statement of where its meat comes from, so we make no comparison of recipes or sourcing. We did not read its reviews and we quote none. We also did not compare pack sizes by value, because we publish no prices in articles and you should check each site for current terms. Everything in the table is a statement the company makes, not a finding of ours.
Who each one suits
- Choose Biltong Depot if you want drywors, a hotter or smokier flavor, a home biltong maker or cutter, or you do not need kosher certification.
- Choose Grub if you need certified Glatt Kosher, you want kosher jerky from the same maker, you want a sampler of three flavors, or you want small-batch Florida production.
- Buy from either if you want sliced air-dried beef shipped to a US address. Both companies state free shipping on orders over $50.
Bottom line
Biltong Depot has the wider range and lists accessories and drywors. Grub has the certification and a smaller, focused line. If kosher matters, that decides it. If it does not, compare flavors and ingredient lists and pick the one you will actually finish. As of October 2026, those are the facts as each company states them. We are not affiliated with Biltong Depot.
