Biltong for the Office: Team Gifts, Client Gifts and the Break Room
Biltong works at the office because it solves the problems office food usually has: it needs no fridge, no plates, no heating and no one to tidy up after it. This guide covers the three ways it turns up at work (the break room, a team gift, and a client gift) and what to order for each.
The break room
A shared snack drawer has to survive a week of people grabbing from it. That rules out anything that goes stale once opened, and that is the main thing to plan around with biltong too.
- Order single-serve bags, not a bowl. 1 oz minis keep sealed until someone takes one. A pound tipped into a bowl dries at the edges within a day and softens on a humid one.
- Plan roughly one mini per person per two or three workdays if it sits alongside other snacks. People take more of it the first week, so order a little extra at the start.
- Mix the flavors. Original for everyone, Loaded Garlic for people who want savory without heat, and some Peri Peri for the people who will ask for it by name.
A team gift
For a thank-you after a hard quarter, a new-hire welcome or a holiday gift to staff, the rule is one thing per person, all the same, so nobody compares.
| What you want it to say | Send each person |
|---|---|
| A small thanks | One sampler pack: three flavors, nothing to guess |
| A proper gift | Two or three 3 oz bags in different flavors |
| Something for the whole team to share | A pound of bulk sliced, set out at a meeting |
A sampler is the safe default for a team because you do not know everyone's heat tolerance, and you probably know less about it than you think.
A client gift
Client gifts fail when they are forgettable (another box of chocolates) or awkward (something the recipient cannot eat or share). Biltong does well on both counts.
- It is unusual enough to be remembered. Savory gifts are rare, and most people have never had good biltong.
- It suits dietary restrictions better than most hampers. No nuts, dairy, soy, eggs or fish in our blends, no MSG, and every bag is certified Glatt Kosher, which matters for clients who keep kosher and makes it one of the few food gifts that works for them.
- It is shareable. A client who opens it at their desk can pass it round their team.
One caution: biltong is meat. For a vegetarian client, or a kosher client you are also sending cheese to, send something else or send it separately.
A meeting or office party
If it is going on a table rather than into gift bags, sliced is the right format. A slab needs a board, a knife and someone willing to carve, and at the office nobody is. Plan about 2 oz per person if there is other food, or about 4 oz if biltong is the main snack. A pound covers about four people when biltong is the main snack, or about eight alongside other food.
Ordering for a larger company
For more than a couple of dozen gifts, or anything with a deadline, talk to us directly. We dry in small batches in Ormond Beach, Florida, so a large order is a production question as well as a stock one, and one conversation sorts out quantities, flavors and dispatch dates. Orders over $50 ship free within the US.
