Kalahari Biltong Compared With Grub Company: What Each Offers
Kalahari Biltong sells American-beef biltong in 2 oz bags with a short ingredient list, and on the pages we read its site states no kosher certification. Grub Company is certified Glatt Kosher and air-dried in small batches in Florida, so for a kosher household the choice is simple.
If you searched for Kalahari biltong, you probably want a clean, simple air-dried beef snack. So do we. This page compares what each company says about itself, as of October 2026, based on Kalahari Biltong's own website. We are not affiliated with Kalahari Biltong or Kalahari Snacks.
One note on names. The shop we read, at shop.eatbiltong.com, calls itself Kalahari Snacks. Its ingredients page uses the name Kalahari Biltong. We treat them as the same brand here, and we use Kalahari Biltong throughout.
Grub Company makes certified Glatt Kosher biltong and Meat Candy, our beef jerky. We are one side of this comparison, so we kept to one rule: every fact about Kalahari Biltong comes from its own pages, and every fact about Grub comes from our own product pages. Where their site is silent, we say so.
What Kalahari Biltong says about itself
The shop lists these ways to buy:
- 2 oz bags of biltong, in flavors it names as Original, Spicy Peri Peri, Rosemary Truffle, Garlic and Chili Lime. The site says individual flavors come in single bags or in 3, 5 and 10 packs.
- Variety packs: a Biltong Variety 5 Pack, a Spicy Variety 3-Pack and a Herb Variety 3-Pack.
- An Original biltong slab, described as a whole slab you can slice yourself. When we looked, the slab page showed it as sold out, so availability may change.
- A gift card.
On ingredients, the site's ingredients page lists the Original as top round American beef, vinegar, salt, black pepper, chili powder and coriander. It says each batch is made with only six ingredients, and that it does not use high heat, sugar, sauces or artificial preservatives. On the slab page, the site says the product is made in the USA.
On its story, the site says the founders are best friends who traveled to South Africa and raced 175 miles in an Ironman and an ultramarathon within a week, discovered traditions of crafting and preserving beef with simple ingredients, and wanted to share them.
On certification and shipping: we did not find a kosher certification stated on the pages we read, and we did not find shipping terms stated on them either. We read the home page, ingredients page and slab page. Check the current site for both before you order.

Where Kalahari Biltong fits better
Kalahari lists flavors that we do not make: Rosemary Truffle and Chili Lime. If an herb or citrus biltong appeals to you, that is a real reason to look there. It also sells in multi-packs of 3, 5 and 10 bags, so if you want a stack of the same 2 oz bag, the format fits.
Its ingredient story is easy to follow too. Six ingredients, no sugar in the Original, stated plainly. If you do not keep kosher and you want the shortest ingredient list you can find, read its page against ours and compare, ingredient by ingredient.
Where Grub fits better
- You keep kosher. We are certified Glatt Kosher. Our guide to what Glatt Kosher certification means explains the term. If a site does not state a certification, ask the company before you buy.
- You want a range of sizes. A 1 oz mini for a lunchbox, a 3 oz bag for the week, a one-pound bag for a household. See our guide to biltong sizes and thickness.
- You want slabs in more than one flavor. Our slab comes in Original, Peri Peri and Loaded Garlic. The honest warning from our page: a slab is an ingredient, not a snack. It needs a board and a sharp knife.
- You want biltong and jerky from one kosher maker. See our kosher beef jerky collection.
How to compare two biltong labels
Whichever you buy, read the label the same way.
- Count the ingredients. Beef, vinegar, salt, pepper and coriander is a traditional base. Extra ingredients are not wrong, but they should be listed.
- Look for sugar. Some flavors add it. Ours lists brown sugar in the Peri Peri. Check any flavor you pick.
- Check the certification on the package, not just the website, if you keep kosher.
- Look at the cut. Thin slices and thick slices eat differently. Our guide to choosing biltong walks through it.
A note on ingredients and sugar
Kalahari's ingredients page puts its sugar-free claim front and center, and it is a fair thing to care about. Our Original biltong also lists no sugar in its ingredients: grass-fed kosher beef, coriander, black pepper, salt, garlic and vinegar. Our Peri Peri lists brown sugar, and Meat Candy is glazed, so it is sweeter by design. The practical advice is the same for either company. Read the ingredient list on the exact flavor you are buying, and ask the company if the label leaves a question open.
Who each one suits
Kalahari Biltong suits a shopper who does not need kosher certification, wants herb or citrus flavors, and likes buying multi-packs of 2 oz bags.
Grub suits a kosher household, or anyone who wants a Glatt Kosher maker with several sizes, three slab flavors, a sampler and jerky. See every size on Buy Biltong Online.
The bottom line
Kalahari Biltong and Grub both make air-dried beef biltong in the USA, and both keep the ingredient list short. The difference that decides it for many readers is kosher certification: Grub is certified Glatt Kosher, and Kalahari's pages that we read state none. If that does not matter to you, taste both and keep whichever you finish.
All facts about Kalahari Biltong on this page come from its own website as of October 2026. Check its current site before you order. We are not affiliated with Kalahari Biltong.
