Gifts for Dad Who Likes Meat: Kosher Jerky and Biltong Ideas

For a dad who likes meat, the best gift is real beef he can eat straight from the bag: a few bags of sliced biltong, or a bag of Meat Candy if he leans sweet. We make both as certified Glatt Kosher snacks, and they suit any dad, kosher or not.

Dad gifts have a reputation. Another tie, another mug, another gadget he will open once. Food is different. He eats it, he likes it, and he finishes it. A dad who loves meat does not need to be told what to do with a bag of beef.

We are a kosher meat-snack maker in Florida. We air-dry grass-fed beef in small batches, and our product line is certified Glatt Kosher. We sell to everyone. This guide covers what to give, how to match it to the dad in front of you, how to wrap it, and when to pick something else.

Why meat snacks work as a gift for dad

Three reasons, and none of them is sentimental.

  • It gets eaten. Most gifts for dad become clutter. A snack becomes a Tuesday afternoon he enjoys.
  • It needs nothing from him. No assembly, no batteries, no cooler. Open the bag and eat.
  • It is hard to get wrong. Nearly every dad who eats meat will eat beef. You are choosing a flavor, not guessing at a hobby.

There is one more reason. Beef snacks are high in protein, which suits the dad who is walking more, lifting again, or just trying to stop eating chips at 4 p.m. We will not promise more than that.

The honest trade-off: a snack is a small gift. It is a very good small gift. If this is a milestone birthday or a first Father's Day, pair it with something else, a card in your own words, or an afternoon together. Do not ask a bag of biltong to carry a whole occasion.

The two gifts, and which dad gets which

We make two main kinds of meat snack, and they are opposites. Pick the one that matches his taste.

Biltong, for the dad who likes savory

Biltong is a South African air-dried beef. It is cured with vinegar, salt and spices, then hung to dry rather than cooked. It is savory and a little tangy, and it is cut thin, so it gives way when you bite it. It does not fight back the way tough jerky does.

Our everyday bag is Sliced Biltong. It is ready to eat, already sliced, and needs no refrigeration. It comes in three flavors:

  • Original. Beef first, then the warm citrus note of coriander. This is the safe pick. If you do not know his taste, buy this.
  • Peri Peri. The same beef with real heat building behind it. It is not a whisper. Give it to the dad who puts hot sauce on everything.
  • Loaded Garlic. Roasted garlic, rounder and sweeter. Savory rather than hot. Good for the dad who cooks and likes bold flavors without the burn.

Biltong is the right gift for the dad who eats lunch at his desk, drives a lot, golfs, or watches the game with a bowl of something salty. It is also right for the dad who has tried jerky and found it too sweet or too dry.

Biltong is the wrong pick if he wants something sweet, or if he wants something that takes real chewing. Some men love a tough strip they can work on for ten minutes. That is jerky territory.

Meat Candy, for the dad who wants jerky

Meat Candy is our name for beef jerky. Where biltong is air-dried, Meat Candy is cooked, glazed and openly sweet. It is made from real, whole sliced beef. There are two flavors:

  • Hickory Kickory Dock. Smoky hickory with the sweetness behind it rather than in front. It tastes closest to what most people mean by jerky.
  • Baa-Baa BBQ Sheep. Korean BBQ, sweet and savory together, with more going on. This is the one people go back for.

Give Meat Candy to the dad who grew up on gas-station jerky and wants a better version of it. Give it to the dad who likes barbecue, smoke and sweet glazes.

It uses a glaze, so if he watches sugar, or you are buying for someone with an allergy or a dietary restriction, read the label on the bag or ask us before you order. Do not guess.

Not sure which of the two he would pick? Our guide to Meat Candy or biltong as a gift for a meat lover goes through it in more detail.

Match the snack to the kind of dad

Here are the dads we hear about most, and what we would send each one.

  • The griller. He already knows beef. Send two or three bags of Sliced Biltong in different flavors and let him judge them against each other. He will have opinions. That is half the fun.
  • The sports dad. Game days, sidelines, long car rides to tournaments. He needs something that does not melt or spoil in a bag. Biltong needs no fridge and travels well. Send a few bags he can keep in the car.
  • The road-trip or travel dad. Same answer. Dry, sealed, no utensils.
  • The new-to-biltong dad. Start with the Biltong Sampler Pack. It is one mini bag each of Original, Peri Peri and Loaded Garlic. He finds his flavor in small amounts, and you do not spend on a pound of something he might not like.
  • The dad who has everything. He does not need more stuff. He may not have tried biltong. A sampler is a small, real surprise.
  • The dad who loves sweet. Meat Candy, either flavor. If you want to cover both bases, add a bag of biltong so he can compare.
  • The dad who loves spicy. Peri Peri biltong. If you send it, say so on the card, so nobody is surprised at the first bite.
  • The dad who keeps kosher. Our line is certified Glatt Kosher and made from beef, so it counts as a meat product. Keep it separate from dairy, the way his household already does, and follow your family's custom on how long to wait between meat and dairy. If he keeps a stricter standard than you do, ask your rabbi.

If you are buying a gift for a dad who already loves biltong, our list of gifts for someone who already loves biltong has ideas that go past a single bag.

How to wrap it so it feels like a gift

A bag of biltong in a gift bag looks like groceries. A little effort fixes that, and none of it costs much.

  1. Pick a container with a use. A wooden board, a small cooler bag, a dish towel, a beer glass, a tin. Something he will use after the snacks are gone.
  2. Add a pairing he already likes. A six-pack of his favorite beer, a bottle of whiskey, a bag of good coffee, a jar of mustard. We do not need to tell you his taste. You know it. If he does not drink, skip it.
  3. Keep the meat the star. One strong item beats five weak ones. Three bags of snacks plus one good extra is a better gift than a pile of filler.
  4. Write a line on the card about the flavor. "This one is hot." "Try the garlic first." A card that shows you chose it beats a bigger gift that shows you grabbed it.
  5. Add a small knife or a board only if you send slabs. Most gifts should be the sliced bags. They need no tools.

Skip the slab unless he likes to carve. Our biltong collection includes slabs, and they are a good fit for a dad who enjoys a knife and a board. But a slab is an ingredient, not a snack. If he wants to eat straight from the bag, buy sliced.

Practical details before you order

  • Shipping. We ship within the US only. US orders over $50 ship free. Order early if the gift has a date on it. Do not leave Father's Day or a birthday to the last week.
  • Storage. Biltong does not need refrigeration. Keep sealed bags somewhere cool and dry. After opening a bag, eat it within a reasonable time. Our shelf-life guide covers the details.
  • If you are not sure about the flavor, send the sampler or buy Original. Heat is the most common mistake. A dad who dislikes spice will not enjoy Peri Peri just because you did.
  • Dietary needs. Check the ingredient list on the product page. If he has an allergy, a sugar limit or any other restriction, ask us before you buy. We would rather answer a question than have a gift go to waste.

If you want more than one bag, or more than one kind, you can see everything we make in one place on our kosher beef jerky collection and our biltong collection.

What not to give

A few honest warnings.

  • Do not buy a huge quantity of a flavor you have not tried. The sampler exists for this reason.
  • Do not give meat to a vegetarian dad. This sounds obvious. It still happens.
  • Do not assume every dad wants jerky. Many men who say they dislike jerky have only had the tough, sugary, mass-market kind. Biltong is a different experience and often wins them over. But some dads will always prefer a steak dinner. If that is yours, take him to one and bring biltong as a side gift.
  • Do not send a snack when he needs something else. If he asked for a specific tool or book, buy that. A snack is a great add-on, not a replacement for a clear request.

The bottom line

For a dad who likes meat, give him real beef he can eat today. Start with Original Sliced Biltong if you are unsure, Meat Candy if he is a sweet-and-smoky man, and the sampler if you want to find his flavor without a big order. Wrap it with something he will use, write a line on the card, and order early.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a good gift for a dad who loves meat?

Good beef he can eat with no work. Sliced Biltong is our everyday pick, and Meat Candy is the sweeter, jerky-style choice. Pair either with a drink or a board he will use.

Is biltong the same as beef jerky?

No. Biltong is cured with vinegar and spices and air-dried. Jerky is cooked and usually marinated with sugar. Biltong is savory and tender. Jerky is sweeter and chewier. Our Meat Candy is our jerky, and many people keep both in the house.

Which flavor should I buy if I do not know his taste?

Original Sliced Biltong. It is beef first, with a little coriander, and nobody finds it offensive. Save Peri Peri for a dad you know likes heat. If you want him to choose, send the Biltong Sampler Pack.

Do I need to keep it in the fridge?

No. Sealed biltong keeps without refrigeration, which is why it travels well in a car, a bag or a desk drawer. Once a bag is open, finish it in good time and keep it sealed and dry.

Is this gift okay for a dad who keeps kosher?

Yes. Our biltong and Meat Candy are certified Glatt Kosher and made from beef, so they are meat products. Keep them separate from dairy and follow your family's custom on waiting between meat and dairy. For anything beyond that, ask your rabbi.

Does Meat Candy have any dietary catches?

It is glazed, so it is sweeter than biltong. If he watches sugar or has an allergy, read the label or ask us before you buy.

Do you ship outside the US?

No. We ship within the United States only. US orders over $50 ship free.
